Join us for a walk around this historic city. We start our walk, leaving the station for the nearby Thames Path, where we follow the river round to the south of the city and cross the Folly Bridge to take a light lunch or picnic at the famous Head of the River pub in St Algate's. After a lunch break we take our own tour of the city centre, passing the many ancient colleges and historic buildings including the Bodleian library and the Bridge of Sighs which make up Oxford University. At the end of the walk we plan to visit Balliol College, which has a small entry fee. After this you may wish to visit the free entry Ashmolean Museum or go shopping and join us later for an optional early evening light meal.
If coming by car we strongly recommend Park & Ride. Try the Thornhill car park on the A40. In the unlikely event of it being full you can try parking near any bus stop further up the road route displaying the bus number 400 or another park and ride location . Park & Ride buses run every 15 minutes and take 15 minutes approx to the City Centre. It costs £2 to park and £2.60 return for the bus ride or use a bus pass. Take the bus to bus stop D5 in Park End street in the city centre near the railway station.

Work continues on the historic Deepdene Estate to restore the lost gardens of the Hope family and it is interesting to walk periodically on the Deepdene Trail. We'll probably have a detour to see the ruins of Betchworth Castle on our way to Brockham for tea/coffee and cake on Brockham green. The teas on the green are a well-established community event. The return section is via the Greensand Way.

A very nice circular walk out of Guildford along the Wey, past Loseley Park as we head to Watts Gallery in Compton where we water the horses or in walking terms have a cup of tea in the excellent cafe. The cafe does get very busy and I suggest we have a packed lunch en route. We return to Guildford along the North Downs Way.
